Are you a Devon local? Are you looking to fill your summer calendar with a range of sustainable events? If you just answered a resounding 'yes' to both of those questions, you've certainly come to the right place! While the summer is more often associated with trips down to the seaside or holidays abroad, we believe it is so important to take part in sustainable events and support local businesses all-year-round. So from vegan markets to slow fashion shows, here are the five best sustainable events you need to attend in Devon this summer!

1. Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey

What is it?

The highly acclaimed, multi-award-winning, non-profit Craft Festival is back in Bovey Tracey this summer for its 16th year. Celebrating all things craft, the festival is a great opportunity for you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and instead embrace nature (and some incredible local businesses!). Offering everything from yoga to live music, there is plenty to see and do here. We, for one, can't wait!

2. Exeter Farmers Market

What is it?

Exeter's weekly Farmers Market attracts shoppers from all over Devon who are keen to sample and buy fresh, seasonal, West Country produce. Situated on our very own Fore Street, the market is a vibrant place to visit, and a great way to stock up on organic fruit and vegetables, cakes, bread, and much more! Shopping here is a great step towards living a zero waste lifestyle.

When is it on?

Every Thursday from 9am-2pm, from May until October

3. The Fore Street Flea

What is it?

The Fore Street Flea is one of our favourite events here at Sancho's! Okay, we may be a little biased, since we're always a part of it. But here us out... The Fore Street Flea is a bi-annual non-profit event celebrating the Independent West Quarter in Exeter, that gives a platform to a unique mix of local artists and makers. Proceeds go directly to a local charity, so attending the flea market is a fantastic way to support not only your local economy but also a fantastic cause.

4. Exeter Vegan Market

What is it?

If you are vegan yourself, you are thinking of becoming one, or perhaps you just try to eat vegan when you can, the Exeter Vegan Market is the place to be. Showcasing a plethora of local independent, ethical, vegan-friendly artisans, traders, makers and small business, (Sancho's included!) there are so many amazing things to discover here. And, of course, a heck of a lot of good food to eat too. The event is coordinated by a non-profit group including Exeter Friends For Animals (EFFA) and Fairfoods, with proceeds supporting EFFA's campaigns.

5. The Slow Fashion Show

If you haven't heard of the Slow Fashion Show, where have you been?! Sancho's first Slow Fashion Show, in partnership with In Exeter, was a huge success and we are wildly excited to announce that it'll be back in September 2019 for the second year running. We will back to celebrate slow fashion and highlight Autumn/Winter lines from selected independent businesses, and so, so much more! Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements in the coming months.
