Building a Better Wardrobe – Our Most Reliable Sustainable Staples
What does a dream wardrobe look like to you? For us, it’s a collection of pieces we feel comfortable and confident in, either in good quality sustainable fabrics, second hand, or circular, and is easy to style in a multitude of ways. Capsule wardrobing is a fine art, and while it’s one we haven’t all got down to a tee (I for one, am very sentimental about some of my old clothes, even if I don’t wear them anymore), it does make complete sense to have a selection of pieces you know you can wear in rotation without getting bored or compromising on style.
We are so proud of our core collection of sustainable staples, and while we don’t encourage you to throw out your old fast fashion garments or buy new for the sake of it being certified ‘Sustainable’ (because that would defy the point), we would encourage you to buy less, but buy better, and sustainable, where possible and when necessary.
When sourcing our collections, we aim to find classic pieces that can work for a wide range of occasions and feel timeless, so you can reach for them season after season and still feel good in yourself. Style is important to your confidence as well as expressing yourself, so while we do also look for more trend-led pieces - a fun print here, or an interesting cut there, we will always keep in stock a range of consistent styles, such as our organic cotton underwear, best-selling jumpsuits, everyday jewellery, sustainable activewear and a range of trousers suitable for chilling out, working out, or even going out.
Keep scrolling to see our Top Five pieces that we think are the building blocks to a better wardrobe, including some tips on how we would style them differently for different occasions...
Comfortable, flattering, and supportive underwear is an absolute essential foundation in anyone’s wardrobe, and we love every single range we offer for different reasons. We have gorgeous naturally dyed, subtly sexy styles from Aussie brand Hara the Label, core every day breathable essentials, including padded soft bras from bamboo-loving Boody, our favourite ever period pants from Pantys, and of course, our soft bra tops, pants, thongs and dressier lace-trim triangle bras from People Tree. While we can’t pick a favourite, we thoroughly recommend our People Tree Basics Bundles for stocking up on your everyday necessities at a more accessible price point that rivals other none-sustainably made options. Fancy something more colourful? Our Hara Bundles are a great investment for every day, special occasions, and even wearing as swimwear in natural waters in the Summer!
2. A Jumpsuit
A good jumpsuit is a fantastic addition to any wardrobe. When you find the right jumpsuit, you’ve got a piece you can wear day or night, layer up for winter, pare back in Summer, and even lounge around in. We have a fantastic range of jumpsuits available, but our top pick must be our best-selling Oliana, now also available in a new printed version we love for Spring if you already own this capsule piece and need an update! Made from soft organic cotton, with a flattering cut that suits a range of body shapes, defining the waist softly, with a wrapped V-neck, tapered legs and pockets, this jumpsuit will work hard in your wardrobe. Below we have shown how we would style it for chilling out (or working from home), enjoying a day out (both layered up for cooler days and styled for Summer) and going out (we recommend a bold lip and some fancy heels to finish this look).

There's a reason jeans have been a mainstay in both fashion and function for so long. Stylish yet practical, comfortable or dressy - they are a versatile piece in most people's wardrobes and tend to get softer and more moulded to you over time. It's important to us to keep organic cotton styles, which use less water in production, in store for the next time you need to replace your trusty pair. Jeans shopping can be a difficult process, so we are always happy to help with sizing and styles. We aim to keep in a selection of cuts to suit a range shapes, styles, seasons and occasions. We (and our customers) love our classic Mom Jeans from Armedangels, the perfect everyday pair. We also have some great skinny jeans, which are great with a chunky knit and boots in winter, and a new wide leg style from People Tree - a perfect Summer pair with room to breathe and they look great with sandals, too!

4. Versatile Tops
A capsule of basic versatile tops is essential for work, play, or down time. We recommend these classics for day - a classic crew neck t-shirt, some lighter jumpers like this Breton stripe jumper or a recycled cashmere jumper, layering pieces, and a blouse or body for dressing up for night or smart occasions. Having a core collection of tops that you can layer together, team with smart or casual trousers or skirts, or even layer under (or over) jumpsuits, dungarees or dresses to give a new twist on an old look, is really useful, and will help you get a multitude of outfits out of a few simple pieces. Our top picks we consider staples are below, and we are confident that each and every one will work with your existing wardrobe.

5. Basic Bottoms
While we love a gorgeous dress or skirt, in terms of our Top 5 capsule items, a couple of pairs of really good trousers will give you transitional and seasonal appropriate looks and can always be dressed up or down with different accessories. Our most loved pairs of trousers are a comfy pair that we feel just as good at home in as dressing up for venturing outdoors, like the Sasha organic cotton slim leg smart jersey trousers or Chandre wide leg trousers, both perfect with slippers, sandals, trainers, ankle boots, and with a plethora of the aforementioned tops and layers. We also think a smart pair of tailored trousers for work or going out, and linen or loose trousers for Summer will ensure you've got the basis of every necessary look to hand. Below are our favourite trousers separated by style, and we feel building up a wardrobe that includes one of each over time will give ample styling opportunities and some staples that can be reached for and enjoyed all year round.
