Starting a sustainable lifestyle can seem daunting. But there are so many big and small changes that you can make to have a positive impact on the environment. No matter how small you think a change is, everything makes a difference! At Sancho’s, we focus on selling ethically made products that are kind to both nature and people. So, we are listing four things that you can do to begin your journey to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Build a Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothes that holds a minimum number of pieces that you can mix and match to create lots of outfits you love to wear and feel good in. Not only does this save time getting ready in the morning, but it means that every item of clothing is used and loved. This concept focuses on buying timeless staples rather than following trends, which means that you will have versatile pieces that can be worn in different ways depending on the season.

At Sancho’s, our clothes are based around the idea of you building your capsule wardrobe. To start building your wardrobe we recommend a pair of classic jeans like our Mairaa Jeans in Deep Ink which you can style in any season due to their dark blue colour. Equally, the Sasha Trousers in Black are a comfortable and soft solution to everyday life, that can be matched with endless tops and jumpers because of their dark colour and simple style.

We also recommend adding a range of plain organic cotton tops, ethical jumpsuits, and cosy loungewear to your capsule wardrobe. The Box Tees from our new comfort capsule collection are irresistibly soft and flattering, making them ideal to style throughout the year with either trousers, shorts, or skirts depending on the temperature. Plus, they are made from 100% organic cotton which is GOTS certified and fair wear foundation approved! This means that your T-shirts are guaranteed to last for a very long time.

We love our best selling Oliana Jumpsuit. The soft organic cotton and elasticated waist give this jumpsuit a flattering and comfortable feel, helping you to feel amazing. The short sleeves are perfect for spring and summer, but can also be layered up in the winter or on cold nights with a long sleeve top or cardigan. One of our customers said that they love the jumpsuit so much that “It’s been hard not to wear it every day since it arrived.”

By buying clothes that you want to wear every day and will last you forever, you avoid the traps of the fast fashion industry and save money! You also avoid the feeling of 'nothing to wear' and always feel that you have a variety of outfits you love wearing.

Make Your Period Eco-Friendly

The average woman throws away 250 to 300 pounds of pads, tampons, and applicators over her lifetime. This creates a huge amount of waste that has negative impacts on the environment. A great way to make your periods more sustainable is to use period pants or a menstrual cup. We sell a wide range of styles and colours of period pants , and have many customers who want to carry on using them forever.

THINX period pants look and feel like regular underwear, but can hold up to 4 regular tampons’ worth! They are designed with a comfy and full-coverage fit, that leaves you feeling protected and supported during your period. To clean them you simply rinse under the tap before putting in a cold wash in washing machine (no softener or bleach) and hang to dry. Using period pants is easy, and creates no waste which makes them much better for the environment.

One customer said “So surprised at how well they worked. Wore them on a heavy day with no other sanitary product and it lasted all day (?!) Couldn't believe it!” Also, by buying two pairs of period pants rather than endless supplies of sanitary products you will end up saving lots of money and living more ethically!

Ethical Self-Care

A key way to live a sustainable lifestyle is to swap your chemical based nail polishes, moisturisers and deodorants for natural and non-harmful products. Looking for self-care products that do not contain harmful ingredients and have recyclable packaging. These products help to care for your skin and are kinder on the environment too!

Our new range of ethically made body butters from Our Lovely Goods are made with a rich and hydrating blend of natural plant butters and oils to soften and hydrate your skin. The natural ingredients are a remedy for dry skin and can even help to sooth inflammatory skin conditions! By making a small change to your skin care routine you nourish yourself and prevent harmful chemicals from affecting our natural world.

Another great ethical self-care product is our range of Cruelty Free Legra Natural Deodorant Stick’s. Our recent blog on Legra details what makes these deodorants so amazing and sustainable! Read it now here.

Plus, we sell a full range of vegan nail polishes from A Weathered Penny that will give you a polished look whilst not harming animals. A lot of self-care products are tested on animals. But, we are proud of the fact that none of the products that we sell have harmed animals and are cruelty free.

Cut Down Your Plastic Waste

Our last tip on how to start your sustainable lifestyle is to try to cut down your plastic waste. 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans daily. This is a frightening statistic because plastic pollution leads to our sea life being injured and our oceans being destroyed.

An easy way to cut down your plastic use is to use a reusable water bottle. We recommend our stainless steel reusable water bottle which is part of our zero waste collection. The bottle fits 750ml of liquid and is easy to clean, leaving your drink tasting fresh every time! This makes it the perfect product for anyone trying to live a plastic-free life.

Another way to limit your plastic disposal is to opt for a bamboo toothbrush rather than a plastic one. Plastic toothbrushes take over 400 years to decompose which means that they remain in landfills indefinitely. Dentists recommend that you replace your toothbrush every 2 to 4 months! This means that bamboo toothbrushes are much better for the environment because they are completely biodegrabale and compostable. Our bamboo toothbrush from Toothbuckle is made of certified FSC raw Mao materials which means that it is ethically made from sustainably sourced and managed materials.

We hope that our list will help you to start your sustainable lifestyle! By making small changes to your everyday life and big changes to how your shop, you can really help the environment. You can view our full collection of zero waste products here.
